American Heavy Lift Helicopters

An industry authority site, from first commit to live in three days.

heavylifthelicopters.us is an independent knowledge library on heavy lift helicopter operations, written for the estimators, engineers, and managers who plan industrial lifts. Sputnik Digital Graphics designed the brand treatment, built the architecture, engineered the editorial and conversion systems, and launched all thirty URLs in three days.

01The brief

Own the subject before anyone asks for it.

Heavy lift helicopter work is planned by people who read: estimators pricing an aerial program against a tower crane, engineers checking what 14 CFR Part 133 actually demands, managers deciding whether a wire pull needs a twin-engine aircraft.

The mission was an authority site for that reader. Not a brochure: a knowledge library with a third-party voice, verified figures, and cited regulations, organized into three reading paths covering aerial construction, utility and infrastructure, and specialized heavy lift. Every page states real numbers, every article carries a named author, and every citation resolves to a primary source. The industry knowledge behind it is not rented: this is the third helicopter-industry property in the Sputnik portfolio.

Systems review Three-day build

Fast because of the system, not instead of one.

Three days did not buy a template with the labels changed. It bought a page registry that generates every derived surface, an editorial layer built for accountability, and a conversion pipeline that would survive an audit.

Sys 01

Architecture

Hand-built PHP with one page inventory driving every derived surface, so a three-day build could not drift out of sync with itself.

  • Single source of truthOne page registry generates the navigation, breadcrumbs, sitemap.xml, and llms.txt, so a page added once appears everywhere
  • No CMS, no frameworkPlain PHP includes render every page; there is nothing to update, patch, or exploit beyond the code itself
  • Extensionless routingClean category and article URLs rewritten at the server, with hub pages structured as reading paths
  • Registry-driven schemaJSON-LD builders assemble Organization, WebSite, WebPage, FAQ, Article, and Breadcrumb nodes from the same shared constants
Sys 02

Answer-engine readiness

The site was built for the way industrial buyers research now: search engines, AI assistants, and answer surfaces all get first-class data.

  • llms.txt directoryAn answer-dense page index regenerated from the page registry whenever the inventory changes
  • AI-crawler-welcome robotsA deliberate crawl policy that invites the assistant crawlers other sites reflexively block
  • WebMCP form annotationsThe mailing list form declares machine-readable tool metadata so browser AI agents can complete it correctly
  • Article schema with peopleEvery article carries Person author nodes wired to real profile pages rather than an anonymous byline
Sys 03

Editorial authority

Authority sites live or die on sourcing. The editorial layer treats citations and author identity as infrastructure, not decoration.

  • Author registryA single identity registry powers bylines, ProfilePage author pages, and Person schema across the site
  • Primary-source registryCanonical URLs for eCFR rules, FAA advisory circulars, OSHA standards, ASME B30, manufacturer data, and NTSB records; articles cite from it rather than inventing links
  • Technical library engineA JSON-backed article system with categories, read times, and per-article hero art, launched with ten published analyses
  • Verified figuresLoad ranges, pick rates, and regulatory citations in page copy trace to the source registry
Sys 04

Conversion surface

One conversion path, engineered properly: a mailing list modal available from every page, backed by a real double opt-in pipeline.

  • Double opt-inA verification email confirms every address before it counts; unconfirmed submissions never enter the list
  • SQLite persistenceA lazily-bootstrapped database with web access denied at the server level
  • Abuse controlsA honeypot field and a per-IP submission throttle keep automated junk out of the list
  • Dev-mode mailerThe mail layer logs full messages locally when no transport exists, so the pipeline is testable end to end offline
Sys 05

Performance

A content site earns its speed budget in the build, not in a caching plugin bolted on afterward.

  • Purged BootstrapEvery page is rendered and analyzed, then the framework CSS is stripped to the rules actually used: 232 KB down to 36 KB
  • Self-hosted variable fontsSpace Grotesk, Inter, and Bebas Neue served first-party as subset woff2 with preloads, no external font hosts
  • WebP image pipelineAn idempotent optimizer creates WebP siblings and shrinks heavy originals across the image library
  • Local Lighthouse auditsPageSpeed-equivalent reports run locally against the live site, with audit history kept in the build docs
Sys 06

Imagery & tooling

The build shipped with its own tool belt, so reviewing, auditing, and illustrating the site never depended on a third-party service.

  • AI imagery pipelineScene imagery generated through a primary GPT Image 2 pipeline with a Nano Banana 2 backup path, plus a licensed stock library
  • Headless review loopA dependency-free headless-Edge screenshot tool and a companion page prober drive desktop and mobile design review
  • Full-site SEO crawlerA custom auditor fetches every sitemap URL and reports title, canonical, Open Graph, heading, alt, JSON-LD, and link findings
  • Line-art processorA GD tool converts white-background technical diagrams to bone-white line work on real transparency
02The constellation

Missions that feed each other.

This launch did not start from zero. It started from six years of helicopter-industry marketing, a site factory, and an in-house ad network, all built on earlier missions.

The domain expertise comes from Fair Lifts, the six-year program that grew a nationwide helicopter services brand past ten million dollars a year. The industrial-scale SEO instincts come from SKYNET, the factory that launched 60+ city charter sites. And the ad placements on every library page are served by Sputnik Signal, the first-party network from Mission 06. One studio, one stack, each launch making the next one faster.
